Adobe Flash, also known as Shockwave Flash or simply Flash, was a multimedia software platform developed by Adobe Systems that allowed for the creation of interactive content, such as animations, games, and videos, on the web.
Flash was widely used in web applications and browsers until its official end-of-life in December 2020, when Adobe stopped supporting and distributing Flash Player due to various security vulnerabilities and the shift towards HTML5 as the preferred web standard. However, despite its obsolescence, Flash is still present in legacy systems and may pose security risks if not properly secured.
Flash was known for its security vulnerabilities, which made it a popular target for attackers to exploit. Some of the security issues associated with Flash included:
Remote Code Execution (RCE): Flash vulnerabilities could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code remotely, potentially leading to the compromise of the system or the entire network.
Cross-Site Scripting (XSS): Flash applications could be vulnerable to XSS attacks, where an attacker could inject malicious code into a Flash file, leading to the execution of unauthorized actions on the user's system.
